The calm in the chaos.

The Calm in the Chaos.

The centre of our being is calmness. Our strength comes from putting negative thoughts aside without reacting. Our mind is like a lake. When it is turbulent, it is difficult to see, but when it’s calm everything becomes clear.

When it’s raining outside, we take shelter inside. So when the world pours down on us, we take refuge in our inner calm. How do we think? What do we think about it? Our outlook on life and how we handle criticisms is the way to find the temple of peace in our hearts.

Just like the raging floods that sweep everything in its path into the sea. Our feelings of anxiety, pain, fear, doubt, and stress may paralyse us as we get sucked into their bottomless depths. It’s knowing who deserves our silences and who deserves our justifications and defences.

Sometimes, water may flow gently in the valley below. Other times the valley may be raging with floods. It is about knowing what is worth the fight and what is not. It is about having the courage to stand up for ourselves when everyone is too busy pointing fingers at us.

It is that time when the mirrors in our minds turn to windows, and instead of seeing the reflection of ourselves, we see others. It is our ability to think, speak, and act our feelings within the boundaries of dignity. Every situation doesn’t need a reaction.

To be able to bear an injustice without having to get even, especially when we realise that we are not the centre of attention. It is learning to walk away from situations that threaten our peace of mind and self-respect. Age is a number and maturity is a choice.

When we sit with calmness as we preside over the stream of thoughts and feelings that flow in the valley beneath us. It’s knowing the difference between what is easy and what is right. It is giving someone space so they could grow into their real self. It’s encouragement, instead of criticism.

Ships don’t sink because of the water around them. They sink because of the water that gets in them. We must not let what’s happening around us get inside our minds and weigh us down. It’s all about finding the calm in the chaos.
