There is nothing more refreshing and calming than standing on shores, listening to the harmonious sound of waves, watching lights reflecting on a sparkling sea surface. There is also nothing scarier than a raging sea and waves that could wipe away whole settlements and mercilessly end all life there.
Life is like the Ocean.
- It can be calm or still, and rough or rigid, but in the end, it is always beautiful. We must think of swimming in the sea the way we look at the ocean, deciding which wave we’re going to ride, and which waves we’re going to let go.
- Some of the waves are going to be huge and worth the risk, and others are going to be small and not even worth the effort. On calm days with little wind, the ocean is like our coffee cup without a spoon. There’s nothing to stir it up and mix it to make the coffee temperature consistent throughout the cup.
- Pour milk into it and it begins to swirl, creating turbulence in our cup. Stir our coffee with a spoon, and it creates even greater turbulence. The more mixing that occurs in our coffee, the greater the turbulence.
- On a perfectly calm day, it becomes like glass reflecting the world around it. It’s as if an identically opposite secret world hides below the surface. On those days, it absorbs heat from the sun, creating a thin layer of warm, buoyant water, perhaps just a few feet thick.
- It floats atop the ocean like oil floating on vinegar in salad dressing, separating the air from the deeper ocean. It represents the unpredictable life, and our way through life must likewise be influenced by respect, knowledge and a lot of joy and life quality.
The Storms
- Storms draw something out of us that calm seas don’t. In a calm sea, every man is a pilot. Instead of passing on choppy waters to the next generation, we should endeavour to leave them a calmer sea.
- The oceans of the world hold many mysteries that are yet to be uncovered. They are incredibly beautiful, filled with life, but at the same time, they can be quite humbling and even terrifying. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles.
- No matter what we say about it, there is always that which we can’t. Every day the sun rises and warms the ocean over a depth of tens of feet, with greatest warming closest to the surface.
- All this happens in just a few hours at the hottest part of the day. It is dangerous, just as it is pleasant and beautiful. It leads us to new places, inspires great discoveries, and takes on a spiritual journey.
- When the full moon lights up the water, and the stars surround us like a big diamond blanket in the middle of nowhere, it brings up an overwhelming feeling to think about the distances around us, as we look up at the stars, in all directions of the boat with no land in sight, and stare into the water, knowing how far down the bottom is.
- We feel very small and humble in the middle of it, but it feels good to experience an inspiring and joyful journey through uncontrollable and fearful circumstances. Magnificent and worthy of praise was the glorious rainbow that seemed to stretch across the entire sky.
The sight of the golden desert before us was spectacular and the sparkling morning dew lit up the grassy plains like a colony of fireflies so beautiful that it leaves one speechless. The beach pebbles on the warm, sun-drenched island glowed as if from within as tiny droplets hit our face as the stunning waterfall cascaded down the jagged mountain rocks.
Water is a source of life, so both seas and oceans have always been associated with it. For some traditions, sea is a symbol of power and might, for others it represents the source of food and life, while some societies associate sea with the unknown, unexplored, mysterious, and deep.
